Pergola Contractor & Installation • Chicago’s North Shore, Chicagoland & Lake Geneva
Some of Life’s Best Hours Happen in Dappled Light
There is a reason every great garden in history has a place to sit out of the sun. Shade slows people down. A pergola says: stay for one more glass, one more chapter, one more conversation. ILT Vignocchi designs and builds pergolas and shade structures that give your landscape its lingering places.
Shade Structures That Extend Outdoor Living
Shade Structures That Extend Outdoor Living
Architecture With a Weakness for Vines
A pergola is where structure and planting meet, and it should be designed by people fluent in both.
Our pergola installation work pairs honest materials and correct proportions with the vines, light, and layout that make the structure feel grown rather than assembled. Positioned for the afternoon sun angle at your property, sized for your table, and detailed to match your home, it becomes the landscape’s most reliable room.
Shade, In the Form That Fits
01
Pergolas
Dappled light over the dining table, and a reason to be outside at two in the afternoon in July.
02
Pavilions
A solid roof, so dinner happens whether or not the forecast cooperates.
03
Adjustable Louvered Roofs
Open for full sun, angled for shade, closed when it rains, all from a switch.
04
Poolside Cabanas and Pool Houses
Shade at the water’s edge, and somewhere to change without tracking through the house.
05
Arbors and Garden Gates
The threshold that makes walking into the garden feel like arriving somewhere.
06
Climbing Plantings
Wisteria or clematis trained overhead until the roof is green by its third summer.
07
Integrated Heat, Light, and Fans
Planned from the first sketch, so October evenings still work and nothing looks bolted on afterward.

TESTIMONIALS
Trusted for Structures That Belong
“Aaron is organized, artistic, and has the architectural vision that puts the right element, hardscape or plant, in the right space, and at the same time honors the surroundings.
We are mostly a woodland setting, and our landscape blends beautifully. The patio, pergola, and retaining walls that Aaron designed, and ILT Vignocchi installed, enhance the architecture of the house perfectly.”

What to Know Before Choosing ILT Vignocchi
-
It depends on how much maintenance you are willing to take on. Cedar weathers to a silver patina and carries the most traditional character, but it needs sealing or staining every few years to hold its color. Composite and powder-coated aluminum systems keep their finish for decades with almost no upkeep, and aluminum allows longer spans and cantilevers that timber cannot achieve. ILT Vignocchi selects the material to suit the home’s architecture and your appetite for patina, and we will tell you plainly which one we would choose for your property.
-
A pergola has open rafters that filter sunlight and can support climbing plants, so it gives you shade and definition but not full shelter. A pavilion has a solid roof, which sheds rain entirely and can carry ceiling fans, heaters, and lighting for use in any weather. ILT Vignocchi builds both across Chicago’s North Shore, Chicagoland, and the Lake Geneva area, and the deciding question is usually whether you want dappled light or a dry dinner in a storm.
-
In Chicagoland a shade structure must be designed for local snow load and wind uplift, with footings set below frost depth so the structure does not shift through seasonal freeze and thaw. ILT Vignocchi engineers every structure for this climate and permits it wherever the municipality requires. A pergola should never be the thing you think about in February.

Yes, adjustable louvered systems let you open the roof for full sun, angle the louvers for filtered shade, or close them to shed rain, which makes the space usable in far more weather than a fixed pergola can manage. ILT Vignocchi has installed cantilevered aluminum louvered pergolas over outdoor bars and seating areas, including one on a Lake Forest estate.
