How will I benefit from an underground sprinkler system?
Since hand watering is done on a random basis and at irregular intervals, an automatic sprinkler system will actually, in most cases, use less water. An irrigation system will also disperse the water at an even rate for a predetermined amount of time. This allows you to water sunny and shady areas for different periods of time, and to water when it is most efficient. One obvious benefit is the ability to continue a watering program while you are away on vacation, etc.
Will the installation make a mess of my lawn?
We will use practices to preserve your lawn during the installation, however, there will still be some damage. Restoration will be included in your proposal and with your new irrigation system, seed and sod establishment should be swift.
How long does a system take to put in?
It would depend on the area of coverage. An average size lawn can usually be done in 3-4 days, depending on the situation.
What type of maintenance does the system require?
All systems need to be activated in the spring and winterized at the end of the season. Because irrigation system parts are fragile, you should expect minor repairs almost annually. Your system might experience soot build up in heads and sprinklers as well as damage due to our freeze thaw. Those repairs will be made during the spring activation and during our mid-season inspections. Should you notice the need for repairs at other times, please call our main office to schedule an appointment for repair.
What happens when it rains?
We install a rain sensor on every system we install. This device senses rainfall, and will shut down your system when it has received enough rain. The sensor is adjustable, so it can be set to individual needs and preference.
How long and how often should I run my sprinkler system?
When a system is turned on in the Spring, our technician will set the zones to run through a predetermined cycle, usually in the early morning hours, which is the optimal time for turf watering. The key is to run each zone long enough for deep penetration which will encourage root development. During the mid-season inspections, coverage will be reviewed, and run times will be confirmed and/or adjusted to reflect current weather patterns. It is usually best to have our trained technicians or your Account Manager adjust your system.
What is a backflow device, and why do I need one on my sprinkler system?
A backflow device is generally a brass assembly that will prevent any water from the sprinkler system from getting into the drinking water supply, and are required by all municipalities.
Will water alone keep my lawn that deep green color?
While water is the key ingredient for a healthy lawn, it is only one contributing factor. Properly timed fertilization with a slow release granular product will give your turf the nutrients it needs to not only maintain that lush green color, but to sustain it during periods of stress or extreme drought. Automated Irrigation is designed as a supplemental watering source, and is not necessarily an effective replacement for Mother Nature entirely. If you feel that your lawn does not look like it should, contact your Account Manager. The problem may be a watering issue but it may also be a sign of disease, fungus, or pests.
If we discussed revisions, how long will it take before I see them?
Your project manager can give you an approximate wait time based on our current backlog. We do try to prioritize revisions for a speedy turn around.
